Olympic Legacy: Data Driven Insights
- Category: BI
- Technologies: Qlik Sense, SQL
Assignment
This project was to clean and analyze the Olympic Games data from the past 120 years with Qlik Sense. The starting point was a historical dataset on the modern Olympic Games, covering data from 1896 to 2022, such as athletes, medals, countries, and more. Based on the data, I had to develop 10 questions that I would answer with the dashboard created and present a story for a particular audience.
Approach
First, I went deep into the given dataset about Olympic games to develop meaningful questions that I could answer. I decided to make the dashboard for an Olympic enthusiast who wants to find out rich insights about Olympic games in the past. Then, I honed my skills for Qlik Scripting. Based on the questions I wanted to answer, I developed a star schema and prototype for the dashboard. Then, I started scripting in Qlik Sense. I had issues to centralize the data. I overcome that by adjusting my starschema and following a different approach to clean up the data.
Result
In the end, I was able to create a Qlik dashboard that answered all the questions. In the dashboard, I displayed insights of Olympic in a user-friendly and interactive way. The dashboard allowed users to access, visualize, filter, and compare data and analytics on various aspects of the Olympic games. The dashboard covered data from different continents and countries. The dashboard also provided features such as charts, maps, tables to enhance the user experience and data presentation.
What I learned
Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of Qlik Sense, cleaning data within Qlik sense and then creating dashboards. I am proud of the results I achieved, and I believe that this project has prepared me well for future work in the field of data.
